Message from the Superintendent
The Denison Community School District remains committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, and supported during their educational journey. The recent changes and proposed changes to immigration enforcement have caused questions and concerns for some families. The following practices are in place in our schools in an effort to continue to provide high quality instruction, support and services to all students and their families.
Student safety is a top priority. Our actions will be based on ensuring student safety. The staff at each of our buildings takes actions daily to ensure student safety.
Maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning. We will continue to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning. We want a safe and orderly environment. We have practices in place at each of the buildings to ensure that any visitor to the building is only allowed to enter the building after being properly vetted.
Maintaining student privacy. As you know, PowerSchool is our student information system. We do not keep track of immigration status in PowerSchool or in any other records that we keep. We also do not collect social security numbers for students or staff in PowerSchooll. We follow board policies, as well as state and federal laws when asked to share student information with outside entities. We will not share information or grant access unless legally required to do so.
Update your emergency contact information. For a number of reasons, families should periodically review and ensure their emergency contact information is updated. Here is a link to login to PowerSchool to review and update your emergency contact information. I have attached a document with instructions to update your emergency contact information in PowerSchool. If you need assistance, please contact the secretary at your child’s school.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children’s education. Together, we can ensure they thrive in a safe and supportive community. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need additional support.
