Denison High School received recognition as one of America’s Best High Schools in national rankings calculated by the U.S. News and World Report magazine in conjunction with the American Institutes for Research. The annual report ranks public high schools throughout the United States and the District of Columbia based upon college readiness, math and reading proficiencies, as well as student/teacher ratios. 31,242 public high schools from across the nation were ranked based on an analysis of their service to all their students and not just those who are college bound. Testing data was also measured for academic outcomes which showed the school to be successfully educating students across a range of performance indicators.
Denison High School was shown to have a student to teacher ratio of 17:1, a 77% proficiency rate in math and an 82% proficiency rate in reading. The school is only one of 86 in the state of Iowa to be recognized and receive a Bronze Award.
